A 39-year-old man faces six counts of sexual assault after several girls say they were inappropriately touched Saturday evening at the West Edmonton Mall World Waterpark.

Edmonton police were called to the water park at about 10:30 p.m. after receiving reports of the attack.

A man “followed and inappropriately touched at least six teen girls while swimming in the park,” said police spokesperson Scott Pattison. The girls, who Pattison said are all under 16, spoke to a lifeguard. The lifeguard called security and kept an eye on the man. When police officers arrived security led them to the man, who was arrested at the scene.

These reports have sparked major outrage in the local Canadian community, especially given the current state of the world, regarding all of the terrorist and sex attacks by migrants internationally recently.

There Have Been Several Complaints

Reports that the man charged, was a Syrian refugee, have ignited a furious firestorm of reaction from local communities and local conservative news outlets.  The outrage is mainly directed at how the Canadian media handled the story, trying to bury it.  Much like the story here  in Twin Falls, Idaho, that was also buried by the MSM, when two Afghani refugees boys sexually assaulted a 5 year old girl, while filming it on their cellphones.

The man charged in the case was a Syrian refugee who arrived in Canada in January 2016, a fact that was reported Wednesday by numerous media outlets.

Mohamed Huque (pictured right), is the executive director of the Islamic Family and Social Services Association.  He says that he’s ‘worried’ that revealing the accused’s refugee status will unfairly vilify an entire community.

“It’s going to inflame a segment of our population who already harbour a bias, a discrimination or unfair views towards newcomers,” said Huque, whose group last year helped resettle 250 Syrian refugees.

“I think this certainly emboldens them.”

Police continue to investigate and urge any other complainants or witnesses who were at the water park at that time to contact investigators at 780-423-4567 or #377 from a mobile phone.
