CAIRO — Gunmen opened fire on vehicles carrying Coptic Christians in southern Egypt early Friday, killing at least 26 people, according to a church official, in the latest deadly assault on the country’s embattled religious minority. The persecution and genocide of Christians continues in Muslim countries.

President Trump released a statement following the attack.  The statement released by The White house reads “the merciless slaughter of Christians in Egypt tears our hearts and grieves our souls”

On Palm Sunday, 9 April 2017, twin suicide bombings took place at St. George’s Church in the northern Egyptian city of Tanta on the Nile delta, and Saint Mark’s Coptic Orthodox Cathedral, the principal church in Alexandria, seat of the Coptic papacy. At least 45 people were reported killed

Egypt’s Al Ahram newspaper, reported that the Christians were on a bus taking them to Saint Samuel Monastery, about 140 miles southwest of Cairo. Arab TV stations also showed images of the badly damaged bus along the roadside, many of its windows shattered and with numerous bullet holes. Footage of the bus’s interior showed blood stains on the seats and shattered glass.
