Kathy Griffin Beheads Trump, Her Career Gets The Ax
Just one day after Kathy Griffin disgusted the world with photos of herself holding a mock-severed head of President Trump, it seems she herself was the one who was “given the ax.”
By Wednesday afternoon, after being barraged by calls from outraged citizens, CNN announced it was firing Kathy Griffin from her New Years Eve gig with Anderson Cooper. Several venues that were planning on hosting Griffin during her “Celebrity Run In” tour are feeling the heat over the comic, with some, such as Route 66 Casino in New Mexico, already reportedly cancelling Griffin’s upcoming tour dates. The Squatty Potty company has also fired Griffin as spokeswoman for their recent ad campaign. With outrage growing over the photos as news coverage increases, further fallout is expected.
TMZ reported that Barron Trump was traumatized by images of the photos on the news. The president tweeted his outrage regarding the effect on his son.
Donald J. Trump@realDonaldTrump
“Kathy Griffin should be ashamed of herself. My children, especially my 11 year old son, Barron, are having a hard time with this. Sick!”
Melania Trump also released a statement:
“As a mother, a wife, and a human being, that photo is very disturbing. When you consider some of the atrocities happening in the world today, a photo opportunity like this is simply wrong and makes you wonder about the mental health of the person who did it.”
While some democrats have come out in condemnation, others have expressed support for Griffin’s actions. Both Jake Tapper and Anderson Cooper tweeted their disgust at the photos, while Senator Al Franken affirmed his support for the comic performing at an upcoming fund raiser.
The Mirage casino in Las Vegas was also besieged by calls, and were assuring outraged callers that Griffin had no further dates scheduled at the hotel. I spoke with hotel management who informed me that no dates were planned with the comedian, and they were currently reviewing their future with the performer and would release a statement shortly.
The VFW released a strong statement of condemnation and called on the USO to end all ties with the comedian. Griffin has been a staple with the organization in past years, but not without controversy. She garnered negative press over an Emmy acceptance speech in 2007 where she insulted Jesus Christ, offending many service people of faith, as well as countless Americans. She was booed at a USO event after making a fat joke about Bristol Palin in 2010, and has come under fire for mocking the physically disabled, even at events with wounded soldiers. However, the recent incident clearly has exhausted the patience of the veteran’s group.
“The Veterans of Foreign Wars of the U.S. strongly condemns comedian Kathy Griffin’s incredibly revolting attack on the President of the United States. Her apology is not accepted. What she did was not humorous nor should it be protected speech or expression. Playing to an audience with a severed head is what our enemies do. The USO should immediately end its relationship with her.” — VFW National Commander Brian Duffy.
Griffin did in fact issue an apology claiming she was “a comedian” who “crossed the line.” Her tweet stating she was merely “mocking the Mocker in Chief” was removed earlier today. The flippant tone in her video and casual explanation are being poorly received by the public and press as being utterly insincere. Calls for criminal charges are growing.
This hasn’t stopped the Fake News media from trying to spin the story left. Reporters bombarded Sean Spicer in the daily press briefing with demands for Trump to disavow statements rocker Ted Nugent made about his machine guns and President Obama during a concert performance in 2007.
As usual, the MSM can’t tell an apple from an orange. While the Nuge’s comments were out of line and created outrage at the time, they hardly compare to the imagery of beheading in Griffin’s photos. In an obvious attempt to invoke a reference to radical jihadi tactics, the photographer Tyler Shields not only promotes a suggestive message of assassination, but also pays homage to the heinous practice of beheading used by Islamic terrorists to put fear in the hearts of their enemies. Video of the photo shoot released by Shields earlier, now removed, showed he and Griffin joking about the inevitable outrage, with Griffin suggesting “they both will have to move to Mexico.”
This statement may play into the investigation over Griffin’s photo now under way with the Secret Service. As any threat or suggested threat to harm the president of the US is a federal crime, intent and fore-planning will play a role in whether or not charges are ultimately filed. Previous cases involving Madonna and other celebrities have not resulted in charges.
However, Kathy Griffin stands to lose thousands, perhaps millions in lost revenue. Her book, “Celebrity Run Ins” is already marked half off on Amazon. With several venues pulling out of her tour dates, advertisers cancelling contracts and networks distancing themselves, the comedian’s career may already be “walking the Green Mile.” While some controversy has helped the comic in the past, industry comedians are comparing the event to the implosion of Michael Richards, who played Kramer in TV’s Seinfeld. His n-word laden rant in 2006 decimated the comic’s career, with Richards now making only rare public appearances. It seems even in comedy, there is “going too far.”
While late night hosts seem to be attempting to beef up ratings with their defense of Griffin, this too may backfire, as advertisers respond to the issue. It was reported that ADT has removed it’s advertising from CNN over the situation, and this may have played a role in the network’s decision to fire Griffin. Further loss of advertising revenue can be expected as companies begin to feel the heat of an outraged public.
As a stand up comic myself, I know the role that controversy can play in a comedy act. We all “cross the line” a little. The art of being funny, however, is knowing your audience. Here, she completely bombed, as we say in the comedy world. Like an open mic comic telling rape jokes, she ignored the audience and arrogantly plowed ahead with her twisted sense of humor, despite the obvious horror of her viewers. Like Michael Richards, and other comedians who have melted down, her lack of connection with audience reaction may be her ultimate downfall.
Kathy Griffin clearly hoped to use the publicity generated by this stunt to promote her current tour and book. However, she didn’t see one thing coming:
The Trump Train.
Nice work, patriots. It is your calls, petitions, and outcry that have ensured immediate consequences for the outrageous actions of the fascist Left. Sure, we all want to see charges, and perp walks. But there is no better place to hit a comedian than in the calendar, and the wallet. When we succeed at showing the Left for how truly hateful they are, we take another small piece of our country back, and get one step closer to making America great again. We have drawn our red line, and unlike Obama, we intend to enforce it.
So let’s end this sad tale of treason and fascism with a little joke.
Kathy Griffin and photographer Tyler Shields walk into a bar. A big steel bar, awkwardly placed about forehead level……ba dum bum, ching. Hey, at least I left their heads on….
UPDATE 5pm CST: InfoWars.com has announced a contest calling out Griffin, CNN and the left as terrorists. They are offering a $1000 prize to anyone wearing a shirt mocking Griffin as a terrorist (examples available on their site) and/or uses the words “CNN is ISIS” on a national TV broadcast. It seems we will not hear the end of this story soon.
