The CEO of GrubHub, a fast growing online food delivery service, sent out a company wide email stating that any employees that are employed at GrubHub who support Trump should resign.
He goes on to say that Donald Trump’s rhetoric and beliefs would have gotten him fired a long time ago had he worked there and suggested that because he won, this might encourage other employees to ridicule minority workers at GrubHub… for some unknown mythological and illogical reason.
The email reads:
“If you do not agree with this statement then please reply to this email with your resignation because you have no place here,” wrote Matt Maloney, Co-Founder of Grubhub. “We do not tolerate hateful attitudes on our team.”
Here is the actual email from Maloney to his employees:
Surprisingly, or not to most intelligent people, GrubHub’s stock fell 4% on Thursday and is continuing to plummet. It appears that Maloney regrets using the “draft” button on his outlook email, as the 60 million people that supported Trump took to twitter to express their disgust, using the hashtag #BoycottGrubHub
GrubHub probably will be facing more than just a revenue / stock hit. There have already been multiple lawsuits filed because it is against the law for employers to retaliate against employees for engaging in political activities. Maloney might think twice about his own fascist rhetoric at the next job he’s at after GrubHub inevitably goes belly-up.
